Many of the types of fats needed by the body can be synthesized from other fats or raw materials. This is not true for omega-3 fatty acids (also known as omega-3 fats and n-3 fats). Dietary fats are essential because the body can't make them on its own. Omega-3-rich foods include fish, vegetable oils, nuts (especially walnuts), flax seeds, flaxseed oil, and leafy vegetables.   [1]

How do omega-3 fats differ from other fats? They play a critical role in the function of cell receptors in the body's membranes and are an essential part of all cell membranes. The cells produce the hormones that regulate blood clotting, contraction and relaxation of artery walls, and inflammation response. Cells also produce these hormones by binding to receptors that regulate genetic activity. As a result of these effects, omega-3 fats may prevent heart disease and strokes, influence lupus, eczema, and rheumatoid arthritis, and play a protective role against cancer and its formations.  [2][3]

Supports Fighting Depression and Anxiety

Depression is one of the most common mental disorders worldwide. A general sense of apathy, sadness, and lethargy are symptoms of depression. Another common disorder is anxiety, which is characterized by constant worry and nervousness.   [4][5]

Interestingly, omega-3s appear to lessen the risk of depression in people who consume them regularly. Moreover, when people with depression or anxiety start taking ONLY FISH OIL™omega-3 supplements, their symptoms improve for the most part. Omega-3 fatty acids come in three varieties: ALA, EPA, and DHA. Of the three, EPA appears to be the most effective at fighting depression.   [6][7][8][9]

Improves Eye Health

Your retina is largely composed of omega-3 fatty acids, such as DHA. A lack of DHA can lead to vision problems. Getting enough omega-3 is associated with a reduced risk of macular degeneration, one of the world's leading causes of blindness and permanent damage to the eyes.  [10][11

Promotes Brain Health

The brain and retina contain 40% and 60% of the polyunsaturated fatty acids, respectively. It's no wonder that infants fed a DHA-fortified formula have better eyesight than those fed a formula without it.   [12]

Omega 3 Benefits during Pregnancy:

  • Improvements to intelligence †
  • Improvements in communication and socializing †
  • Supports improvements for development †
  • Lower risk for ADHD, autism, and cerebral palsy †
  • Improvements to Heart Health †

Supports and Protects the Overall Health

A heart attack or stroke is one of the leading causes of death in the world. Researchers observed decades ago that fish-eating communities had very low rates of these diseases. These findings were attributed to omega-3 consumption. Omega-3 fatty acids have been linked to numerous cardiovascular benefits since then.  [13][14][15]

ONLY FISH OIL™ - Omega-3s can cause a major reduction in triglycerides, usually in the range of 15–30%. Blood pressure is supported by Omega-3 which can reduce blood pressure levels in people with high blood pressure. Good HDL cholesterol is supported by Omega3. The fatty acids in omega-3s can help prevent plaque from developing in your arteries, making them smooth and free from damage.  [16][17][18]

Supports a Reduction to Body Inflammation

Inflammation occurs when your body is infected or damaged. This is why it is so important. Inflammation, however, sometimes lasts for a long time without infection or injury. Chronic inflammation refers to this. Chronic inflammation can lead to almost every chronic Western illness, including heart disease and cancer. Omega-3 fatty acids, in particular, are known to reduce the production of inflammatory molecules, such as eicosanoids and cytokines. Omega-3 intake and reduced inflammation have been shown to be linked in studies.   [19][20][21]

What is Inflammation in the body?

During the healing process, your body fights against things that harm it, like infections, injuries, and toxins. Your immune system responds when something damages your cells by releasing chemicals.   [22]

The body responds by releasing antibodies and proteins, as well as increasing blood flow to the injured area. In the case of acute inflammation - such as getting a cut on your knee or getting a cold - the whole process usually lasts a few hours or a few days. This lingering inflammation leaves the body constantly on alert, resulting in chronic inflammation. An inflammatory response over time may negatively impact your tissues and organs. Cancer and stroke may also be linked to chronic inflammation, according to research.  [23]

What causes chronic inflammation?

Chronic inflammation can be caused by several factors, including:

  • An infection or injury that goes untreated can cause acute inflammation †
  • Autoimmune disease in which your immune system attacks healthy tissues †
  • Excessive exposure to irritants, such as industrial chemicals or polluted air †

It is important to remember that not everyone gets chronic inflammation from these issues. Chronic inflammation can also occur for reasons that aren't obvious.   [24]

Inflammation may also be triggered by a number of factors, such as:

How does chronic inflammation impact the body?

Chronic inflammation can eventually lead to healthy cells, tissues, and organs being damaged by the body's inflammatory response. Eventually, this can damage DNA, cause tissue death, and cause internal scarring.   [26][27]

Several diseases have been linked to all of these factors, including:

How Much
ONLY FISH OIL™ - Omega3 Should You Take?

According to the American Heart Association, those with no history of heart disease should consume at least two servings of fish each week (a total of 6-8 ounces). Fish of different varieties should be included. Omega-3 fatty acids are abundant in cold-water wild fish such as mackerel, tuna, salmon, sardines, and herring.  [28]

A healthcare professional may recommend that you take one gram of EPA+DHA every day if you have heart disease. Talk with your doctor about taking a fish oil supplement if you have trouble getting this amount from food alone.

Even if you take medication to lower your triglycerides, you may need to eat more foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids if you have high triglyceride levels. Additionally, your healthcare provider may recommend taking fish oil supplements. Patients with high triglyceride levels should consume 2-4 grams of EPA + DHA every day. Triglyceride levels are lowered by 25-35 percent with this amount.  [29]
